Sustainability has been an integral part of PVS Chemicals Belgium’s philosophy since
we started in 1945. As a continually operating family-owned business for more
than 75 years, PVS has been living and breathing the meaning of sustainable
operations. We constantly look for opportunities to structure our business
model to shift towards a circular economy.
At PVS Chemicals Belgium, we are working hard to emulate the philosophy of
our parent company when it comes to sustainable operations. As a
manufacturer of Sulphur based specialty chemicals located in the harbor of
the historical city of Ghent, we are committed to preserving our soil, water and
air for future generations.

Solid and Liquid Waste
We have implemented a program that gives all of our employees the opportunity to lease an e-bike. This not only offers our employees with a cheaper alternative to car travel and provide our employees with an adequate level of physical activity necessary to enhance health, but also an environmentally friendly option for their daily commute. With majority air pollution in most urban areas coming from tailpipe exhausts, e-bikes could play a significant role in improving the air quality and the standard of living.
In our sulphuric acid plant, we recover waste heat to produce steam, thus reducing our dependency on fossil fuels to heat our buildings and our process equipment. This steam is also used by our neighbouring industrial plants for their manufacturing processes. Thanks to our waste heat recovery efforts, we prevent approximately 11,500 tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere per year — this is the equivalent of planting 195,000 trees annually. We are committed to sustainability.
PVS Chemicals Belgium also strives for implementing sustainable practices in the human, social and economic aspects of our business to preserve our valuable resources, whether it is human capital or physical capital. PVS Chemicals Belgium publishes ESG policy statement
ESG stands for “environmental, social, governance” or environmental, social issues and the associated governance of organisations.
From 2024 onwards, the European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requires organisations to report sustainability information. It means that factors such as energy consumption, climate, availability of raw materials, health, safety and good corporate governance play an important role in determining a company’s policy.
PVS Chemicals Belgium also continues to focus on sustainability. This is a continuous process requiring a joint effort from all stakeholders.
